The building at number 14 in chapel street, that you are admiring, is a former upper-class house dating from the early 19th century. It impresses with its massive shape and long, gambrel roof. The Town Hall moved here in 1974, after being acquired by the mayor, Maurice Picard, after having moved several times. The roof was restored at that time. Today, the building is used by Montlhéry associations for courses and activities. In the ground floor room, you can admire a tapestry depicting the Battle of Montlhéry in 1465.
This association centre is named after Raymond Galidie, a well-known local figure. He served two terms as a local councillor from 1993 to 1995. During his terms in office, he became vice-president of the tourist office and was involved in local events and the organisation of the tomato fair. From 1995 to 2001, he was deputy mayor in charge of safety and development. He is the creator of a work entitled the ‘Forgeron’, which he created in his own image, and which is exactly his size and weight. Until 2014, this metal sculpture stood on the roof of this house. It was then moved to the square in front of the current town hall, at 1 rue Blanche de Castille.
You can also see a stele in memory of General de Gaulle in the square below.
